Pen Tutorial drawingsIn this assignment, we watched videos on how to draw different patterns and textures, along with drawing the shadows that really shape the figures. We drew examples as cubes, a long cylinder ¨log¨ shape, and spheres.
Critique Questions:
1. Explain the progress you went through to develop your drawings (sketches, planning, in progress) - I carefully examined the different pictures that I took and tried to get the same perspective sketches and the shades and shadows that are in the pictures. 2. How important is a composition to the success of your drawing? - The composition was very important to finish with a successful final drawing. If I did not use the right kind of shades of pencils, or pay attention to the different values, it would not have looked the same. 3. Explain how you found the different values in your object? - I found the different values in my object/objects by turning the picture I took, black and white. This helped the picture exaggerate the shadows and values a lot more, which helped it easier for me to distinguish. 4. Did you achieve a full range of the different values within your drawing? How? - I believe I did achieve a full range of the different values in my drawing. By doing so, I made sure to use the correct pencil values and use the correct pressure while using them, to create the right value. 5. Describe your craftsmanship. Is the artwork executive and crafted neatly? - I believe that my drawing is fairly neat and crafted well. The perspective is very clear and gives attention to everything placed in my drawing. 6. How important were the learning skills and techniques prior to the final drawing? - The learning skills are very important to the final drawing because the techniques of knowing how to create different values and using the different pencils and pressure of the pencils helped create a perfect range of values. 7. How did you grow as an artist? - In this project, I grew as an artist by practicing my skills with using pencils and taking my time in achieving the right value in every shadow or shade in my final drawing. 8. List any obstacles you had to overcome and how you dealt with them. - A few obstacles I overcame while doing this project was taking my time (patience) and in some parts, it was hard to achieve the correct shade/value in the beanie hat, since it was a lot of drawing in to do, and it was very dark. The texture in the hat was hard to accomplish too. These photos are my in progress drawings that show the steps throughout my work. First I started with the top and started to work my way to the bottom.
This is a value chart created using pencils, that show the different shades that can be created using different pencils. This pencil lesson helped me practice with the amount of pressure to use when using pencils. Along with which level pencil I should use for light and dark shades.
