What medium was your favorite to work with? Explain why and how you were able to master the techniques associated with this medium.
The medium that was my favorite to work with would have definitely been prisma colored pencils. The colored pencils were my favorite because you can be able to create such life-like art pieces if you put in the time and effort. I loved the way the colors blended so well together, and after enough layers, it would create a waxy feel. My favorite thing about these colored pencils is the way that they blend, and I also enjoy how relaxing it can be to use this medium. In my Georgia O´keefe project, I created an up-close moth wing, with flowers in the background. In this project I was able to master the techniques associated with prisma colored pencils because of the way I blended the colors together. I tried to color in one direction so the moth wing will look more textured and blended. I am pretty proud of myself for that art piece, since the moth wing looks fairly realistic. I made sure to add lots of colors into the wing (that you cannot see,) to enhance the main color and look of it. I added a orange/tan color, light blue, light purple, brown, and sometimes light pink. Adding these colors enhanced the real color of the moth wing, and the different spots and shades that were on it. Using this technique helps because it is better to use lots of distinguishing colors, rather than just one color. If you use just one plain color, the drawing will lack depth and detail. Another technique I used was to start with very light layers and work myself up. I started the moth wing with a very light layer of shades of green, and kept adding colors and layers so it will all blend together correctly. Using this technique is very important because if you use only one or two layers, and press too hard, the color will become waxy and not allow more color to be blended it. This will make the drawing appear less realistic, and have a lack of depth. Overall, prisma colored pencils are very fun to work with, and you can create anything you want out of them, you just need to know the correct techniques. Ever since I started using prismacolors, I have always loved them and used them outside of art class too. With lots of practice and art classes, I have grown a lot with using these prisma colored pencils!
