Art Criticism: Art Criticism is the process of discussion of visual art. Other artists can comment on what you should fix or add. This is my mixed medium art piece. I took little scraps of different colored tissue papers, and glued them onto the paper. The texture on my piece is a sort of rough because the layer of glue is on top. I learned that with this project, you can basically do anything you want. From water color, acrylic paint, oil paint, pencil, or marker, you can create anything that inspires you or something you're interested in. I had a topic on this piece, and it was the last place I went to for vacation, so I decided to design the project based on Wrightsville beach. This isn't my best work to be honest; I could have added more pictures and designs. I tried to make the color scheme make sense with the blue for water, green for palm trees, and yellow for a sunset. I needed to add more mediums, such as acrylic paint or water color paint, to make the color look more blended in. What is art? - Art is the expression of someone's creativity and imagination, and it can be expressed any way. Reasons why an artist would use observation for a piece: - An artist would need to use observation to get the little details in what they are painting or drawing. For example, if an artist was painting a landscape, he or she would need a scene to look at for the special and very detailed parts. In this picture, the artist would need to look at the real lady to take care of all the details, especially on her face. What is the point of this class and what I got out of it - The point of this class is to express art in your own way and use your creativity to the highest level. This Art 1 class is to also learn art techniques and improve on the art that you always thought you were not so good at. I've learned a lot in this class from learning to work with clay from painting with water color. But, the biggest thing I got out of this class was my creativity. I realized I can express that without being judged by other people.

This is my water color character. I recreated The It from the book by Stephen King. My design differs from other artists because I added some things of my own, like the color of the clown suit. My process didn't take that long since it was water color. My advice to other artists would be that they should plan out what colors they are going to put on their piece, and to make sure to test to colors before you paint it on. Since colors may look different on the palette.
My piece shows the theme of “line” by showing us curved lines, straight lines, and even unique shapes, like the hearts.
One successful thing about my piece is that I cut the shape of my birds tails well, I really like the shape of them. One thing I would change is the background, I would’ve made a more realistic background. To make brown, you mix 2 complementary colors together. For example, red and green, purple and yellow, and orange and blue. They all make different kinds of brown.
My mentors name was Danielle. In Danielle's blog, I mostly saw water color paintings and basic colored pencil art. Her portfolio link is www.artlingcorner.weebly.com
Something I think I will benefit from is new ideas in my art projects. Like, I've never done a water color painting before, so maybe I can do something like that next project.
Karen Knorr's works are very geographically diverse. Karen was born in Germany, and raised in Puerto Rico, before she ventured to London to focus on art. She works in video and installation, she is best known for her photographs. Themes in her work include the distribution of privilege and wealth, value systems, the role of animal representation, and issues of power of cultural heritage. More recently, Karen has made a series of digital work set in India, based on fables.
Karen Knorr inspires me with her work because a lot of her work includes animals in some kind of art museum, and I love animals and art. I've always loved to work with animals in an art way, and Karen's work pushes me to love it more. I just admire the way she places the animals in these 2 pieces, she makes them stand out. |
